The cold spell looks set to continue for a couple of weeks yet, but
it is important to be ready for survey on the increase in bat
activity that will inevitably follow, when the weather gets warmer.
The cool mornings provide a suitable window for reptile assessments,
and now is also the time to start on pond surveys for great crested
newts. Summer flowering makes it the ideal time to undertake Phase
1 surveys (and corresponding BREEAM / CSH assessments) and also to
assess Japanese knotweed infestations and start implementing
appropriate treatment.
