By
virtue of being located away from urban centres and in areas of high
landscape / biodiversity value, minerals or waste development often requires ecological mitigation.
Such projects often extend over many years and consequently attract
considerable scrutiny from LPAs due to the extended impact upon amenity.
However, it is this longevity that also offers most opportunity to undertake
a scheme of mitigation that not only safeguards existing ecological
interest, but also may offer unparalleled opportunities for habitat creation
in the longer term.
Understanding the geological, as well as biological background to the
proposal, allows an integrated approach to be adopted, and opportunities to
make a long-standing contribution to bio and/or geodiversity realised.
